Abby Greensfelder
Co-owner and Executive Producer
Greensfelder’s passion for compelling television and her interest in social anthropology spurred her to start an independent production company with business partner Sean Gallagher. With the opening of Half Yard Productions, Greensfelder sought to develop and produce entertainment content that would appeal to a broad audience but focus on extraordinary everyday characters and their stories. Whether viewers are following amateur metal detector enthusiasts with Diggers, channeling their inner bridezilla with Say Yes to the Dress or scratching their heads at the sport of noodling with Hillbilly Handfishin’, Greensfelder offers them a peek in the window of someone else’s world.
Prior to starting Half Yard Productions, Greensfelder was senior vice president of programming and development for Discovery Channel. Under her direction, Discovery launched a number of successful series that have become signature programs for the network, including Deadliest Catch, Dirty Jobs, MythBusters and American Chopper, in addition to award-winning specials like the Emmy-nominated The Flight That Fought Back and the critically acclaimed Planet Earth. Greensfelder played a key role in creating the Discovery Channel Quest initiative, which funded and filmed scientific expeditions around the world. While at Discovery, Greensfelder was named one of Hollywood Reporter’s ‘Next Generation: 35 under 30’. She is a member of the Maryland International Film Festival’s Advisory Board and is an honorary member of Jewish Women International.
Greensfelder started her career in production with Transatlantic Films, a UK-based production and distribution company. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Yale University and a MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. A native Washingtonian, Greensfelder is a natural-born photographer and mother of two very lively little girls.
