Some Assembly Required

How do you engineer a bowling ball to boost a gutter jockey’s game?
What makes cheddar cheese taste like — cheddar?
How do toilet-makers “test-drive” a toilet once it’s built?

Some Assembly Required, takes you “on the line” to find out!

Host Brian Unger is the man on the inside, traveling to factories across the U.S. to ask, “How do they make that, anyway?”  Brian rolls up his sleeves, puts on his steel-toed boots (and hairnet!) and makes everything from high-tech items like BMWs to everyday things like lawnmowers, windows and lip balm.  And he’s got some serious know-how at his disposal -- scientist Dr. Lou Bloomfield is on-hand to demonstrate how physics and chemistry are employed to make everyday objects.

Welcome       About Us       In Production
Some Assembly Required goes beyond how things are made.  Every object manufactured is a story of people — people who turn ideas into designs and designs into products, and do it bigger, better, more affordably and more quickly.  Brian learns from and laughs with inventors, scientists, engineers, craftsmen, and assembly line staff, and celebrates their ingenuity and skill.

Finally, Brian stands in for the viewer as the ultimate quality control.  From bowling a strike to driving a boat, Brian puts the product — and himself — to the test.
